If you're building or upgrading a gaming PC this year, the choice usually comes down to these two. Both are Blackwell cards, both carry 16 GB of GDDR7, and both are hard to find at the price NVIDIA printed on the box. Here's what the gap between them actually buys.
The short version
The RTX 5080 is faster, by roughly a quarter in most games at 4K, and costs about a third more at list price. The RTX 5070 Ti is the better value for 1440p and for high-refresh gaming, and it's the card that's easier to find near list. If you play at 4K with everything turned up, the 5080 earns its premium. If you don't, the 5070 Ti is the one to hunt.
Side by side
| RTX 5070 Ti | RTX 5080 | |
|---|---|---|
| Memory | 16 GB GDDR7, 256-bit | 16 GB GDDR7, 256-bit |
| CUDA cores | 8,960 | 10,752 |
| Board power | 300 W | 360 W |
| Launch list price | $749 | $999 |
| Founders Edition | None | Yes |
Both support DLSS 4 with multi-frame generation, both have the same 16 GB, and both need a modern power supply. The 5080 draws more and runs a bigger cooler, so check your case length before you buy a triple-fan partner card.
What list price really means
NVIDIA sells a Founders Edition of the 5080 at list price, but it appears in small drops and sells out in minutes. There is no Founders Edition of the 5070 Ti, so every one you'll see is a partner card from ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, PNY and others, and most of those sit above the launch price. The cheapest partner models (ASUS Prime, PNY's base card, Gigabyte Windforce) are the ones that come closest.
That's the pattern to watch for: the basic partner cards restock more often and more cheaply than the overclocked flagships.
Cards we're tracking
- ASUS Prime RTX 5070 Ti, the no-frills model that tends to sit closest to list.
- Gigabyte RTX 5070 Ti Gaming OC, a mild overclock with a larger cooler.
- NVIDIA RTX 5080 Founders Edition, the list-price unicorn.
- MSI RTX 5080 Gaming Trio OC, the partner card most often in stock.
Each page shows the live price at the stores we check, when we last looked, and every restock we've recorded.
How to get one at a fair price
Set an alert on two or three cards, not one. The cheapest model in stock changes week to week, and an alert on each means you hear about whichever lands first. Have your store account signed in with payment saved, because partner cards at list price last minutes, not hours. And ignore the "limited availability" markups at marketplaces: both of these cards restock constantly.
