PS5 Slim restock: where it shows up first

The PS5 Slim isn't a launch-day console anymore, and most weeks you can walk in and buy one. Then a price change lands, or a bundle, or the holidays arrive, and it vanishes for a stretch. This guide is for those stretches: where the console tends to reappear first, what to watch, and how to hear about it without refreshing all day.

What you're buying

The Slim is the current PlayStation 5: the same console as the 2020 original in a smaller case, with 1 TB of storage and a detachable disc drive, so a Digital Edition can be upgraded to play discs later. It launched in November 2023 at a list price of $499.99 for the disc model. Sony has changed its prices since, so treat that as the number it started at, not the one on the shelf. Why it sells out in stretches

The PS5 doesn't have the permanent shortage of a brand-new console. It has waves.

• Price changes. When a price goes up, people buy ahead of it. When it goes down, people buy because of it. Either way the shelf empties for a while.
• Bundles. A console bundled with a big new game is often the version stores get the most of, and the standalone can go sold out while the bundle sits there.
• Holidays. November and December are their own season. Stock moves fast and the quiet patterns stop applying.
• Sales events. A discount weekend can clear the standalone console in a day.

Between the waves, it's usually in stock. The skill is knowing when a wave has started.

Where it tends to come back first

Online and in store are two different shelves. Best Buy's website sells from warehouses; its stores sell from their own deliveries. For the PS5 Slim, which is a big, boxed, high-volume product, that matters more than it does for a graphics card:

• Stores often have it when online doesn't. Consoles ship to stores on regular routes, and a store with two in the back isn't fighting a bot for them. The near-me page shows which Best Buy stores around you say they have one, nearest first, with a pickup link.
• Online restocks are quieter but bigger. When the warehouse gets a shipment the listing simply flips, with no announcement, and it tends to stay up longer than a Switch 2 drop would.
• The bundle and the standalone move separately. If you're flexible, watch both. The bundle with a game you'd buy anyway is sometimes the one in stock.

Which of those comes first for a given wave is something we'd rather show than guess. Our product page logs every restock and sellout we see, with the time. For the PS5 Slim we have not seen enough restocks to say when they usually land, and the page says "not enough data" until it has at least eight to go on.

A routine that works

1. Set an alert on the PS5 Slim. One email the moment it's back online, with the price and the link. Tick "also on price drops" if you'd rather wait for a sale.
2. Set a near-me alert too. Enter your ZIP on the near-me page, pick a radius, and get an email when a store inside it has one. The email leads with the pickup link; use it rather than driving over.
3. Sign in to Best Buy ahead of time with your address and payment saved.
4. Don't pay a reseller. The PS5 Slim is not scarce the way the Switch 2 is. A sold-out week is a week, not a season.

Worth having ready

A second DualSense controller is the usual first add-on, and it's rarely sold out, so there's no need to grab it in the restock rush.
