The Switch 2 is the console everyone is hunting this year, and the search results are a mess of reseller listings, "coming soon" pages and prices that have nothing to do with the sticker. This guide is the calm version: what Nintendo asks for it, how the bundles work, what a sold-out listing actually means, and what to do about it. For the minute-by-minute routine, read how to catch a Switch 2 restock next.
The list price
Nintendo launched the Switch 2 on 5 June 2025 at a list price of $449.99 for the standalone system. A bundle with Mario Kart World launched the same day at $499.99, and bundles with other games have followed, each priced above the standalone by roughly the price of the game.
That is the number to hold in your head. Any listing well above it is a reseller, however official the page looks. The Switch 2 System page shows the price Best Buy reported and when we last checked; if the store has changed the price since launch, that is where you'll see it.
Bundles: when they're the better buy
| Option | What you get | Worth it if |
|---|---|---|
| Standalone system | Console, dock, Joy-Con 2, no game | You already know which game you want, or none |
| Game bundle | The same console plus a digital game | You'd buy that game anyway |
Bundles are not a trick. The game in them is usually a full-price game, so you're paying about what you'd pay separately, with one real difference: the bundle and the standalone are stocked separately. During a shortage the bundle is sometimes the one on the shelf while the standalone is gone, and the other way round. If the game is one you want, watch both and take whichever lands first.
The one case to avoid: a bundle whose game you'd never play. That's a reseller markup with extra steps.
What "sold out" means this year
A sold-out Switch 2 listing in 2026 does not mean the console is unobtainable. It means the last wave sold through and the next one hasn't landed. Three things make that happen faster than for any other console:
- Demand is still ahead of supply. Every delivery is spoken for before it arrives.
- Bots buy within seconds. A listing that flips online is often gone before a person could add it to a cart.
- Restocks are quiet. No announcement, no countdown. The listing changes and then it changes back.
So "sold out" is a state the listing passes through, again and again, not a verdict. The people who get one at list price are the ones told the moment it flips, not the ones refreshing.
What our pages can tell you, honestly
The Switch 2 page records every restock and sellout we see, with the time. Once it has at least eight restocks to go on, it shows the days and hours they usually happen, in your own time zone. Right now we have not seen enough restocks to say, and the page says "not enough data" rather than inventing a schedule. The alert works either way, which is the part that matters.
Stores are the other half. The Switch 2 reaches Best Buy stores on their own trucks, and a store with one in the back isn't fighting a bot for it. The near-me page shows which stores around you say they have it, nearest first, with a pickup link. Our guide to store pickup restocks covers how to use it well.
How to buy one at sticker
- Set an alert on the Switch 2 System. One email the moment it's back online, with the price and the link. Nothing else, ever.
- Set a near-me alert as well, with a radius you'd actually drive. A store email leads with the pickup link.
- Sign in to Best Buy now with your address and payment saved. The alert buys you the first minute; checkout is where people lose it.
- Decide about bundles before the email arrives, so you're not weighing it up with a timer running.
- Never pay a reseller. A markup buys you a few days. The next wave is coming.
Accessories can wait
Everything that isn't the console is easy to find: a second pair of Joy-Con 2, a Pro Controller, a case, a card. Buy them after you have the system, not in the same frantic checkout. If you also play on PC or PlayStation, the DualSense is a popular all-rounder, and if you're weighing a different console entirely, the PS5 Slim is the one whose shelf story is the opposite of this one: mostly in stock, with occasional waves.
